Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
Almost 4500 walkers gathered in Bellevue Park on Sunday, October 14th to participate in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K Walk. This non competitive walk raises awareness, and most importantly funding, to help fight breast cancer.
Included in the crowd of 4500 were 73 Symetra volunteers. The registration tent was staffed with 20 Symetra employees checking in registrants and collecting donations. The remaining 53 Symetra volunteers got to enjoy the 5k walk and the fantastic weather that Mother Nature supplied (this was especially appreciated by those that experienced the downpour during the walk in 2006). Team Symetra was able to raise $4040 for the event (not counting the company match)! This contributed to the total of $200,000 raised in the Puget Sound area.
Here is what Tracy Wort, Co-coordinator of the event, had to say, “I thought the event was great fun, a little hectic at times, but fun and very worthwhile. I am very proud to be a part of Symetra and the wonderful team that came out to support such a great cause! I think the weather helped too!!”
Thank you, very much, to those that volunteered their time and fundraising efforts this year. Your contributions have greatly benefited the American Cancer Society and their efforts in increased awareness, research, prevention, and early detection.
